Every March, Bi+ GA celebrates #BiHealthMonth with our Healthy & Thriving event. On the 29th, from 1:30-4:30 at the Little Five Points Community Center we will be hosting Making Things Less Bad: Cooperative and Non-Coercive De-escalation workshop by @carewaveatl, an Atlanta-based community care collective. During the workshop we will have a resource fair as well, featuring organizations that contribute to the health and wellbeing of the queer and trans community. @ithriveatl will be providing take home HIV test kits, and we will provide masks, test strips, zines, fidget toys, and pamphlets provided by the @bisexualresourcecenter on bi and pan health!
Conflict happens—whether in our homes, workplaces, or public spaces—but de-escalation doesn’t have to be about control or authority. Making Things Less Bad is a community-centered workshop designed to help us feel more confident and prepared to navigate difficult situations with care, cooperation, and non-coercive approaches.
This event is about working together to reduce harm—not by silencing emotions or avoiding conflict, but by learning to slow things down, recognize needs, and respond with empathy rather than force. De-escalation is something we all practice in our daily lives, and this workshop will help us build on our existing skills, apply them in real-life scenarios, and strengthen our communities through mutual support and care.
What to Expect:
✅ Practical tools for handling tense or high-stress situations
✅ Strategies for responding to conflict without relying on authority or coercion
✅ Approaches rooted in community care, trauma-informed support, and mutual aid
✅ A welcoming, interactive space to learn, share, and practice together
This workshop is open to everyone—no prior experience necessary! Whether you’re looking for ways to support a friend in distress, de-escalate conflicts in your workplace, or simply feel more prepared for tough conversations, this session will provideconcrete skills and insights to help you show up for yourself and others.
Come join us at Little Five Points Community Center as we learn, grow, and work toward making things just a little less bad—together.
This is a three hour long workshop. There will be breaks throughout, during which you can mingle and check out the different orgs tabling.
